I met David at Art All Night DC, in a basement gallery on R St. where a live band was playing. He sat at an easel by the entryway, dozens of vibrant, completed portraits spread across the table beside him. That day he was working on a portrait of Martin Luther King Jr., pausing every now and then to converse with interested onlookers.
About six weeks later I watched him work on another portrait of King – but this time, with his permission, I recorded it.
